Passive Therapy

Cryotherapy uses ice, compresses, cold towels, and ice massage to reduce the temperature of tissues directly on or below the skin’s surface. Cold temperatures constrict blood vessels, helps relax muscles spasms, and numbs painful areas. Nerve transmission is reduced when cold temperatures are used and provides temporary relief of painful symptoms.

The use cold applications are used most often in acute injuries or chronic conditions that recur to reduce and prevent swelling. During the initial stages of an injury, local cooling should be applied multiple times per day.

We utilize the Ultrasound/Muscle-Stimulation combination with extremity injuries and other conditions such as lateral epicondylitis or tennis elbow, CTS (Carpal Tunnel Syndrome) and many more. Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to penetrate tissues deep in the body and creates a response of heat. Hard tissue accumulations and harmful calcium are broken down by these vibrations and heat. Treatment is applied directly to the painful area with a use of a room-temperature gel which conducts the sound waves. The healing process is sped up by the rise in body temperature, increase in blood flow, massaging of damaged tissues and muscle spasm relaxation.

Electric Muscle Stimulation Therapy

We utilize many forms of Muscle Stimulation (i.e.. Russian Stim, High Voltage Pulsed Stimulation, Galvanic, Various forms of Micro-Currents, Interferential Stimulation, Biphasic Stimulation, etc…) that assist us with Acute Injuries mostly and some Chronic conditions by using low-frequency electrical impulses to encourage the body to release endorphins and other natural pain relievers. Pain is relieved by applying these impulses into the tissues at the area of the injury.

This treatment is also used to aid in reducing swelling of soft tissues. Degeneration is reduced and blood circulation is increased, especially in cases of sprains, strains and spasms.

Superficial Moist Heat Therapy

The temperature of soft tissues directly below the surface of the skin are raised with heating pads, infrared lamps, water bottles, moist warm towels, and/or hot packs. Blood vessels are enlarged, relaxing tissues and temporarily relieving painful symptoms. An increase in circulation and muscle relaxation is helpful before or after adjustments, exercises and other treatments. The healing process is sped up with the increase in circulation, range of motion and flexibility.

Flexion Distraction

Flexion Distraction uses hands on therapy and a uniquely designed table that gently and safely decompresses the irritated swollen discs while you rest comfortably. While you are relaxed and facing face down on the table, isolated and controlled pressure can be applied to the affected areas of the body. This allows the discs to retain their normal anatomical relationship to the vertebrae above and below the disc removing pain and numbness and/or tingling. Spinal joints are stretched and spinal fluid circulation is increased helping to restore elasticity and motion to the spine.

Vibratory Soft Tissue Stimulation

Vibratory Soft Tissue Stimulation of various forms for Myo-Fascial release. A form of Therapeutic Massage to increase blood flow and increase muscle elasticity and increase active pain free range of motion by unlocking or releasing bound up fascia around adjacent muscles and joints. Used for many different conditions and in combination with other specialties.

Trigger Point Therapy

Trigger points are tiny knots or palpable nodules that develop in localized areas of the muscles or connective tissues when it is injured or overworked. Commonly a cause of most joint pain, they are known to cause headaches, neck and jaw pain, low back pain, tennis elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) and many more pain conditions. Our treating physician or one of our qualified therapists will commonly apply this technique for our patients to relieve muscular pain and dysfunction through applied pressure to trigger points of referred pain. This therapy not only relieves muscular aches and pain but also serves to restore active range of motion.
